Music is a wonderful source of inspiration. And a great source of strength no matter what emotional state one is in.
Whenever I wish to relax and re-energize, I seek the soothing and beautiful sounds of bossa nova – my very favorite musical genre. And when I seek to unleash untamable joy and feel tremendous warmth from within, I turn to samba. To me, the rhythms of Brazil represent a sonic celebration of life. I listen to all kinds of music, but I feel most alive when I’m caressed by the sounds of Brazil.
Samba is a musical genre and dance that originates in the state of Bahia in Northestern Brazil. It stems from Africa and came to Brazil via the West African slave trade. Samba is one of the iconic cultural expressions of the Brazilian nation brand.
The other day, I discovered a Swedish pop-samba band called A Casa Toca, writing and singing in Brazilian Portuguese – a beautifully rich language. According to the singer Matilda Bådagård, the aim is to achieve “a mix of Swedish melancholy and Brazilian heat in both the melodies and the lyrics”.
‘Sonhadora’ is A Casa Toca’s first single of their upcoming album (to be launched in May 2013). I find it beautiful. What do you think?
